<image:caption>Doris Salgado became a member of St. Paul's in 1987. She was led to come to St. Paul’s on invitation of her life-long and best friend, Sarah Sterling-Laldee. She recalls having tried several other churches once she left for college, but she says that St. Paul's is her home and has “always accepted me with open arms.” She is an active member within our ministries, as she has been part of the youth group, as well as led the youth group. She has also served as an acolyte, as a member of the choir, and now serves as Treasurer of the Vestry. Doris currently serves as Program Director for the Paterson Education Fund (PEF). Outside of work, she absolutely loves singing and being a mom to her son, Lucas Sky.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ed began worshiping at Grace Church Van Vorst in his hometown of Jersey City back in 1999. Then, when he met his partner Ross, they developed a strong connection with St. John’s Church in Union City. Ross served as a Warden and Lay Minister, and Ed became their part-time bookkeeper. Thanks to these positive relationships, Ed was told of a full time job opening at St. Paul’s Church which included some bookkeeping. At the time, Ed had been working as Educational Director for an ESL and Vocational School where he had also taught accounting and office computing. He was ready for a change. In December of 2008, St. Paul’s Church asked Ed to take on the responsibilities of 3 different positions. Ed supervised the Sexton, maintenance crew, receptionist, and managed space usage. Ed took a nearly 3-year break from St. Paul’s Church that began in 2011 when he was injured in a hit & run accident on his way home from work. It was an opportunity for Ed to begin studying Hatha yoga, one of his greatest passions at this time. Ed has seen a lot of changes at St. Paul’s over the years and is very much enjoying the fruits of his long career with the Church and his connection to this wonderful community of dedicated, faithful, and loving individuals.</image:caption>

<image:caption>St. Paul's Community Development Corporation (SPCDC) has its roots in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, which has served Paterson, New Jersey, for 200+ years. St. Paul's was home to Paterson's first Head Start classrooms in 1966. It established the Food Pantry in 1970 and the Emergency Men's Shelter in 1984. In the fall of 1990, it incorporated St. Paul's Community Development Corporation as a separate, nonprofit, 501(C)(3), tax-exempt entity to consolidate and enhance its outreach efforts. SPCDC's initial objective was to improve service delivery, expand funding possibilities and increase volunteer leadership beyond the Vestry of St. Paul's Church. Today, SPCDC provides various human service programs to more than 5,000 families and individuals annually, including adult basic education, workforce development training, and affordable housing. Over 200 volunteers per year support our full-time staff. The ethnic and socioeconomic mix of our board of directors and staff reflects the diversity of the community served.</image:caption>

Inspired by the global El Sistema movement, PMP uses music education as a vehicle for social change in its home city of Paterson. PMP provides tuition-free musical training to students throughout Paterson after school. Students study a primary instrument and participate in ensemble practice and instrumental sectionals. They receive an average of 6 hours of instruction per week and in addition may participate in an optional private lesson program. Students perform frequently for the community and at an average of 30 events annually.</image:caption>

<image:title>Sacramental Services - Baptism</image:title>
<image:caption>Baptism is one of the two most important sacraments of the Church. (The other is the Eucharist.) It is administered to individuals of any age who have not been previously baptized in any other Christian denomination. If someone is joining the Episcopal church from another denomination, their baptism in that denomination is recognized and acknowledged. We believe Baptism to be a service of Christian initiation by which the individual baptized becomes a member of the body of Christ and the Church. Speaking for themselves or through the promises made by sponsors, called God Parents, the individuals vow to follow the Christian teachings and way of life. These vows include participation in corporate worship as well as individual observance of prayer and study as a life-long practice.</image:caption>

<image:title>Sacramental Services - Confirmation</image:title>
<image:caption>Confirmation is a sacrament whereby a person affirms for him/herself the vows made at Baptism. This sacrament is available to anyone age 14 and above who have never been confirmed and wish to be a member of the Episcopal Church. If you have been confirmed in another denomination, the ceremony of Reception takes place which recognizes the validity of his or her previous Confirmation, and also serves as an official welcome into the Episcopal Church. To learn more about the Episcopal Church and confirmation/reception ask the clergy about the preparation process and the series of Inquirers Classes.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Planning a wedding is a beautiful and joyful undertaking. In full accordance with the policies of the Diocese of Newark and in keeping with New Jersey State law. Our parish recognizes all couples the recognition and access to all sacraments, including Marriage. The wedding liturgy of the Episcopal Church is used for the ceremony. At least one of the parties must be a baptized Christian. All couples preparing for marriage, need to meet with the clergy for marriage preparation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Outreach Ministries - Family “Souper” Café</image:title>
<image:caption>St. Paul’s Souper Family Café provides a monthly Saturday hot lunch to 40-60 people in our neighborhood with activities for children. The Café complements the work of St. Paul’s Community Development Corporation’s Food Pantry by providing a hot, nutritious meal in our Parish Hall. Our volunteer team includes parish members and neighbors. In November we provide a Thanksgiving luncheon for more than 500 people. In 2025, St. Paul’s joyfully marks ten years of the Souper Family Café. We welcome volunteers in many roles as we not only share a meal, but also provide listening ears, crafts for children as well as adults and a time of peace and reflection.</image:caption>

<image:title>Outreach Ministries - Just Diapers / Programa de Pañales y Toallitas (“pampers”)</image:title>
<image:caption>Diapers are an essential need in the City of Paterson. With a growing population contending with food insecurity items for infants and toddlers is an associated need. This program, developed during the COVID 19 Pandemic and stay-in-place orders, provides diapers and wipes to anyone with proof of need. Our Neighbors are able to receive services monthly, usually every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 PM (please call ahead to confirm).
